Spinnaker aka Spinny

Spinnaker history

Spinnaker was sculpted by Sarah Minkiewicz-Breunig. A stablemate-scale sculpture he was a special open release for RESS. This resin was only available until the end of 2006. RESS thanks Sarah for her generosity and support!

Spinnaker, a gelding of mixed heritage, is about 3-1/4 inches tall by 4-1/2 inches long and his mane and tail represent crashing ocean waves. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, a spinnaker is "a large triangular sail set on a spar that swings out opposite the mainsail, used on yachts when running before the wind."

The RESS board of directors asked the members and subscribers to pick a nautically-themed name for the sculpture in line with the organization's quarterly newsletter, The Boat. Diane Knoth won a free RESS t-shirt after her submission, "Spinnaker," was voted the top name by the board of directors, officers, and membership.

The sculpture was cast in resin and offered (unpainted) for sale. Spinnaker was produced as an open edition through 2006.
